George Nelson, 8th Earl Nelson
George Joseph Horatio Nelson, 8th Earl Nelson (20 April 1905 – 21 September 1981), was a British British peerage, peer and businessman. He inherited the title in 1972 on the death of his older brother Henry Nelson, 7th Earl Nelson. Lord Nelson was born in Appleby Magna in Leicestershire, the fourth son of Edward Nelson, 5th Earl Nelson, and Geraldine (''née'' Cave). He was the younger brother of both Albert Nelson, 6th Earl Nelson, The 6th Earl Nelson and The 7th Earl Nelson. George Nelson was educated at Ampleforth College in England and was registered as a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (A.C.A.). In 1973 he was a pub landlord when he was invited by the Royal Navy to visit his ancestor's flagship HMS Victory, HMS ''Victory'' at Portsmouth Harbour. George Driver "Pinky" Nelson (born July 13, 1950) is an American physicist, astronomer, science educator, and retired NASA astronaut. Early life and education Nelson was born on July 13, 1950, in Charles City, Iowa, but considers Willmar, Minnesota, to be his hometown. He graduated from Willmar Senior High School, Willmar, Minnesota, in 1968. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Harvey Mudd College in 1972, and a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Astronomy from the University of Washington in 1974 and 1978, respectively. Nelson was a Boy Scout and earned the rank of First Class Scout. His wife, Susie, is from Alhambra, California. While lead designer for the Herman Miller furniture company, Nelson and his design studio, George Nelson Associates, designed 20th-century modernist furniture. The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a crucial conflict of the Texas Revolution. In 1835, colonists from the United States joined with Tejanos (Mexicans born in Texas) in putting up armed resistance to the centralization of the Mexican government. President Antonio López de Santa Anna and the government in Mexico City believed the United States had instigated the insurrection with a goal of annexing Texas. In an effort to tamp down on the unrest, martial law was declared and military governor General Martín Perfecto de Cos established headquarters in San Antonio de Béxar, stationing his troops at the Alamo. When the Texian volunteer soldiers gained control of the fortress at the Siege of Béxar, compelling Cos to surrender on December 9, many saw his expulsion to the other side of the Rio Grande as the end of Mexican forces in Texas.
